Dick Wolves

Apparently the Dick Wolves things got brought up again at PAX ... lots of people are seriously pissed about it, sadly most people pissed about it have not read the comic The Sixth Slave, but were told to be pissed about it.  A friend posted a link to a page about how horrible it was that someone said they should not have pulled the Dick Wolves line of merchandise.

This was my response:

Anyone who has read the comic knows they were commenting on the violence in video games, and that those video games say care about the people being attacked, but only to the point required to finish the quest, the violence is ok, and how that is complete bullshit, that you should care about fixing the problem not just finishing the quest.

I will continue to buy their stuff, because I agree with them, just because you finished the quest in the game does not mean you fixed the problem, I play games not to do quests, but to fix the worlds in which those games take place, in WoW when you cannot save more than what is required for the quest I feel like a huge dick, why? because I see pain, and I am straight up not allowed to fix it.

I do think they should have done the comic with a different thing as the driving point, and I really would have preferred that, but I can see that they would have trouble doing so without sounding like they are just quoting from a specific game.

I agree with the pulling of the merchandise, not because the joke was bad, but because of how so many of PA fans were responding to the issue.  They were using it as a violence inducer of people who did not like the joke, and that was a real problem.  The majority of the people who defend it are people who actually think rapes jokes are ok, you know the kind, the people that think WoW rogue jokes about stunning and then raping not being rape, cause they are stunned, are hilarious.  When people were talking about picketing PAX because of the joke there were people talking about turning the picket into a rape party, I mean they were literally talking about raping the picketers.

In other words, all sides were in the wrong.  They really should have gone somewhere else with it, and they should not be going 'we should have kept selling';  the majority of the people who are against it are against it because they are told to be, and most of the rest failed to fully understand it (there are those, including, I think, my friend that posted today, that understood it and just validly think they should have gone not rape joke); and the majority of the that defend it, who I think are the real problem.

I say read the comic for yourself, if you think that is the best that they could have done, well, you are wrong, the joke is one of their worst (and not just because of the rape aspect); if you think they are actually making fun of victims, well, again you are wrong, mostly cause it is obvious that it is the player and the creators that are the joke; if you think they should have gone further in going against the rape is bad people, well, can you do me a huge favour? take yourself out of the gene pool, kthxb.
